The striking red front door beckons you in to a gracious space that is at once a combination of Austin colorful and vibrant with European plush and textural. The menu, as well, reflects the bi-continental influences of its owner and executive chef, Dzintra Dzenis. With offerings designed to “bring a little bit of Paris to Austin, Texas”, Dzintra’s featured plates change seasonally, always with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and local inspirations, such as Spicy Tuna Nachositos, comprised of small fried risotto cakes topped with spicy tuna, jalapeño peppers, strawberry and cilantro-jalapeno aioli.
The Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Dzintra Dzenis appeared on the 6th season of The Food Network Star in 2010; with her high energy and epicurean flair, Dzintra was a star finalist on the show. Since then, the former HEB grocery in-store cooking demonstration chef and Supper Club organizer traded her home kitchen for her first restaurant at the Shops at the Galleria. The venture was a great success, earning accolades from local guests and food critics alike.
One year ago, Plate by Dzintra relocated to its current expanded location, with a patio that overlooks a serene pond and is surrounded by Texas Hill Country flora. Plate by Dzintra is open 7 days a week and happy hour, dinner, catering and private events are offered in the stunning space. Visiting celebrities have been known to stop by: Dzintra has hosted British former Formula One racing driver Sir Jackie Stewart, and Martie Maguire, co-founder of the Grammy Award-winning group Dixie Chicks, among other notables. The next step for Dzintra: a Gourmet Market and Café, featuring all-day casual dining as well as on-site take away.
